Confirm with “Add extension”.
Open web.whatsapp.com. If it was already open, reload the tab.

Prefer to install manually? Download the package, unzip it and load the folder in chrome://extensions with “Developer mode” turned on.

Requirements: Chrome 120 or newer on a computer (Windows, macOS or Linux).

Confirm with “Add” and wait for the installation.
Open web.whatsapp.com. If it was already open, reload the tab.

Alternative: the latest build, unsigned. Download prontei-firefox-0.8.0.zip · Version 0.8.0. It may be newer than the store version and is only for temporary installation.

Download the file above. You don’t need to unzip it.
In Firefox, open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox.
Click “Load Temporary Add-on…” and choose the downloaded file.

The manual ZIP is not signed by Mozilla, so Firefox loads it as a temporary add-on and removes it when you close the browser: it doesn’t receive updates and the installation must be repeated after reopening the browser. To install permanently and receive automatic updates, use Firefox Add-ons.

Requirements: Firefox 153 or newer on a computer.

In both browsers, leave about 1 GB free for the transcription model. Test your browser.

Is it free?

Yes. Prontei is free.

Does my audio go to a server?

Prontei transcribes on your computer and doesn’t send audio to a speech recognition service. WhatsApp Web still uses WhatsApp’s own services. If you allow it, Prontei sends usage and error data, without audio or text. See the privacy policy.

Does it work on a phone?

No. Prontei works only in WhatsApp Web on a computer. Test your browser.

Does it work in Chrome and Firefox?

Yes. On a computer, Prontei works in Chrome 120 or newer and Firefox 153 or newer. Install it from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons; the main button on this page points to the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons, depending on your browser. In both cases, the extension updates itself.

What is the Firefox ZIP?

It’s a version not signed by Mozilla, for temporary installation. It doesn’t receive updates and Firefox removes it when you close the browser. To install permanently, use Firefox Add-ons.
